Wep RenPet, the Opening of the Year, is the most important festival in the Ancient Kemety calendar. It is celebrated on the day that the star Spdt (Sirius, also known as 'the bright one') rises on the horizon with Aten (the sun). Spdt was understood to be the personification of the 'Divine Feminine' and Aten was the personification of the 'Divine Masculine'. The phenomena of both rising simultaneously was considered a very esoterically powerful time.
Modern day Kmty practitioners blend Wep RenPet with another sacred observance called Heriu RenPet (the five days over the year). These five days occur just before the new year's festival of Wep RenPet. They are dedicated to five of the most important Ntrw: Ausar, Heru-Ur, Setesh, Auset, and Nebt-Het. These five Ntrw represent the transition of the old calendar year and open the way to the new year. The combination of these ceremonies has had a very profound, cathartic, personal, emotional, and spiritual impact on modern Kemety for decades.
The music of this Wep RenPet project is a creation of Nu-World Kemety spirituality. It is an eccentric blend of the sacred devotion of the Ancients, but with a secular appeal. Wep RenPet is in a new genre of music known as metaphysical mood music. It is the answer to the question of how to make sacred music that is relevant. Ra Sankhu Kheper gifts us again with a sonic upgrade that will reinvigorate your zest for your spiritual quest.
